CNR & Research Centres
Pisa hosts one of Italy's largest concentrations of research centres, with CNR institutes, INFN and the Virgo/EGO centre for gravitational wave detection.
About 15 minutes by car from La Tana del Cinghiale
CNR in Pisa
The CNR Research Area in Pisa is one of Italy's largest, with numerous institutes spanning from computer science to chemistry, computational linguistics to materials science.
Here Italy's first internet domain (.it) was born in 1987, and Pisa's computing tradition continues today with cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and high-performance computing.
INFN and Virgo
The National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Pisa is a centre of excellence for particle physics and theoretical physics. It has contributed to fundamental discoveries at CERN in Geneva.
In Càscina, just kilometres from La Tana, stands Virgo: the European gravitational wave detector that in 2017 contributed to the historic first observation of a neutron star merger.
The research ecosystem
The concentration of research institutes makes the Pisan area a unique environment where science, technology and innovation intertwine daily. International conferences, seminars and workshops take place throughout the year.
For visiting researchers, La Tana del Cinghiale offers a unique alternative to a city hotel: countryside tranquillity just minutes from laboratories and university campuses.
We're getting everything ready to welcome you
La Tana del Cinghiale will open in 2027. The country house is being prepared to offer accommodation immersed in the Tuscan countryside. The apartments will be available as holiday rentals.
